About Us

Overview

Anti-Poaching k-9 Foundation Trust is a Zimbabwean registered not-for-profit charity organisation with the mandate to protect, save wildlife and women empowerment through Anti-poaching employment creation.  The escalated levels of unemployment and the desire for high-value wildlife products such as rhino horn, elephant ivory, bush meat, lion bone and pangolin scales has driven the illegal hunting of wildlife species to levels not seen in decades.

We believe the use of highly trained Dogs and women will be more effective in addressing this menace as opposed to the use of guns and bullets. We are an all-female Anti-Poaching unit. Our handlers and dogs are deployed in key areas of high poaching activity and along all trafficking routes in Zimbabwe and beyond. Our all-female Anti-Poaching K-9 Units will be the frontline for protecting wildlife and natural resources in Zimbabwe.

The Board

We are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors and we have also established a team of experts who advise and assist with our decision-making, negotiations, compliance, and fundraising. Our board and team are committed to assisting in the preservation of the wildlife. The board consist a team of individuals with a diverse mix of skills and experience in corporate, not-for-profit, legal, media, security and Investigations. Anti-Poaching K-9 Foundation, as the most trusted k-9 Anti-poaching organization, working across the whole of Zimbabwe to unite Zimbabweans from all walks of life in giving wildlife a women’s voice. We’ve been on the front lines for wildlife since 2020, fighting for the conservation values that are woven into the fabric of our nation’s collective heritage. All our anti-poaching dog handlers are highly trained women working alongside their super trained Belgian and Dutch shepherds Canines.

Our Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan sets in motion a common agenda for Anti-poaching to increase Africa’s fish and wildlife population and enhance their capability to thrive in a rapidly changing world at the same time empowering women to have a voice in conservation matters.

Mission Statement

To protect wildlife and natural resources while facilitating educational and employment opportunities for all women to learn how to be ambassadors of wildlife conservation.

Our Values

Rule of Law: We thrive to comply with all the regulatory and legal frameworks that are applicable in Zimbabwe and other international codes.

Consensus Oriented: All decisions are taken only after consultation from various stakeholders and necessary frameworks and be adopted only after consensus from all board members.

Responsive: We thrive to take necessary decisions in a timely and judicious manner.

Participatory:  We always encourage all stakeholders’ participation in decision making. Thus making sure there is freedom of expression, collaboration and respect among all out stake holders.

Equity and Inclusiveness: Our policies, vision and frameworks facilitates an equal opportunity to all stakeholders irrespective of age, gender, culture differences.

Transparency: We are transparency in all our activities hence all information is easily and freely available. Our reports, information related to our board members, donors etc. are accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Accountability: We are remaining accountable to our acts and decision thus our organizational management structure, financial procedures, human resource policies etc.

The illegal trafficking of wildlife is now one of the world’s largest criminal industries, with repeated links to terrorism networks. High Target Species such as elephant and rhino are being hunted to extinction. These animals are the most difficult to protect, as poachers go to the most extreme lengths to kill them. Anti-poaching rangers form the first and last line of defence for nature. Without the right training, equipment, management and support they cannot defend the World’s natural heritage for future generations.

We believe direct action anti-poaching is a vital component of any successful conservation formula where poaching is a threat like as it is in Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole. Without giving maximum support to the dogs and rangers who risk their lives daily to meet this responsibility, then we have little hope for long-term preservation of the natural world.

Our anti-poaching program can be tailor made to suite each end every need. We have Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds available at our training facility in Harare ready to be deployed on Anti-poaching mission, our objective on this initiative is to get our animals out of the kennels and get into the bush to save other animals, and this can only be archived if we join hands with same minded folks like you.
